Add ability for extensions to have "checked" commands

I would like the ability to have a command in a menu show a checkmark, similar to:

We currently have an enablement "when clause" to control enable/disable, so maybe we can add a checked "when clause" that would work the same way.

I was just starting to add a new feature in one of my extensions (following the View & Sort submenu idea available on Source Control view today) and noticed there is no API available to "check" commands 😞 .

Also in developing an extension with a submenu to filter treeview in bottom panel.
Bad news is, there is still no such api.

It would be cool if vscode can support it.

I hit this issue again today too

Trying to add checked choices to control column visibility on the GitLens Commit Graph. Had to resort to "Show/Hide" toggles

It's really weird to think that such API request has only 6 upvotes. I expected more extension developers asking for this.

Any extension that contributes a Treeview could use it.

I do find it frustrating sometimes that there's stuff that "built in" extensions can do (such as toggled menu items here in the "source control" extension) that as a third party extension developer you can't do yourself. The fact that the source control extension has such menu items shows the use case is valid, it's just frustrating that as a third party extension developer you then can't do the same thing.
